Eloise Underhill

Collective Coach/Dance Instructor

Eloisa Underhill's passion for dance began at a young age, exploring different classes and styles such as jazz, ballet, tap, lyrical, and hip-hop at her local dance studio. She later went on to audition for a hip-hop and jazz/lyrical company during high school, where she trained intensively with experienced teachers, dancers and choreographers. Eloisa has worked with top names in the dance industry such as matt stephanina, nika kjlun, tokyo, mirinda davis, kyle hanagami and more. This training honed not only her dance skills and led her to appreciate the art of choreography and different styles of dance, but also taught her valuable lessons in teamwork, leadership, and discipline, which contributed to the company's overall top scores and achievements. Eloisa's dance teaching career began during this time when she was 16, after being invited by the studio to start teaching. This continued when she began teaching at YPAC in 2015.

Eloisa studied biology and psychology at DePaul University, she later completed her psychology degree at Aurora University. These studies along with her personal experiences profoundly influenced her teaching approach and the way she views dance instruction. Eloisa tailors her dance classes to her students' needs and unique learning styles and integrates different psychological learning theories to enhance memory and mind-body connection. Her studies in biology have made her knowledgeable about muscular and skeletal anatomy to help aid in injury prevention, mirroring her personal challenges and experiences with dance-related injuries. She prioritizes recognizing and nurturing her students' abilities, promoting body awareness, hard work, and resilience.

Outside her dance and teaching career, Eloisa relates to YPAC’s mission, as she has been involved in the arts from a young age which has positively impacted her life. This included taking voice and piano lessons, playing the viola and bass in her middle school orchestra, and now continuing to learn and play new instruments like the ukulele and guitar. At home, she loves spending time with family and resides in Yorkville with her husband and two children. Eloisa's passion for learning never ceases, as she constantly seeks new knowledge and skills to enrich both her personal life and her teaching practice.
